Kadokawa has announced that Toshiya Miyata's novel Kyokai no Melody will be getting a television anime adaptation. The project will feature the same cast from the original drama CD, and Kadokawa released a short promotional video highlighting the returning voice actors. The announcement has stirred interest, especially among fans of both the novel and Miyata's other entertainment work.
Kyokai no Melody began in May 2024 as a light novel written by Miyata with illustrations by LAM, and it launched alongside a fully voiced drama CD. The cast includes Kent Ito, Daisuke Sakuma, Yuma Uchida, Shunsuke Takeuchi, and Soma Saito, with Miyata himself serving as the narrator. Music for the project was composed by Ryutaro Fujinaga of Elements Garden. A second volume of the novel is already on the way, scheduled for release on November 25.
The story centers on Kyosuke, a musician who steps away from music after losing his partner Kai right before their major debut. Three years later, Kai suddenly returns with an unsettling message, telling Kyosuke that doing nothing is no different from being dead. This encounter sets the stage for a dramatic, emotional journey as Kyosuke confronts both his past and the future he thought he'd lost.
Alongside the novel and its upcoming anime, a manga adaptation by Iqura Sugimoto started running in Young Ace magazine in early May. Kadokawa plans to release the manga's first collected volume on November 25. Meanwhile, Miyata continues to build his voice-acting career with roles in series such as Cardfight!! Vanguard Divinez, Kinnikuman: Perfect Origin Arc, I'm the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire!, and The Healer Who Was Banished From His Party, Is, in Fact, the Strongest.
