The story is very well constructed, sequenced and thought-through. There were times the dialogs and messages fell a bit flat because of the caricature they tried to embody. However I still think it is overall remarkably composed. If Planet of the Apes and 12 monkeys enjoyers read this, you might want to give it a go as there are obvious references.
The animation was clearly not the main focus of this show. The use of CGI for background information was very noticeable even on a small screen. There were very long sequences with close to zero animation or effort to change points of view. The soundtrack was also nothing very special, but little mention for HigeDan's opening song.
Phil was quite interesting amongst very staged and caricatural characters, his development through the story felt accelerated, but overall consistant.
I guess that the manga offers much more value than the anime for those reasons, so I might actually give it a go later.
The author tried to offer several directions to his plot and I'm curious to see what season 2 will actually bring about. I am surprised that so far Darwinism/ Darwin's research has barely been introduced, as there are key concepts that are not self-explanatory and commonly not known from the general public.
That would be a rounded 7 from me. Even if the animation and sound did not serve the story as it could have, it was difficult not to binge watch it. It is certainly entertaining and calls for a sequel that will be watchlisted day one.
